Einstein visits iart

How does a LED work and what makes it different from a light bulb?
To shine some light on these and other questions, a team from the science magazin “Einstein” of national broadcaster SF1 visited us. Our studio set the stage for the “Was steckt drin?” (What’s inside?) segment of the show during one day.
Several experiments had been prepared to show that light does not necessarily equal light. Iart was chosen on the grounds of our yearlong expertise in the areas of media art, lighting and scenography. Of course we are delighted.

Shopping Centre Stücki, Basle — Corporate Lighting, Signage, Advertising Space, Mall Illumination

081121_stuecki_sued-fassade_kleiner The largest expanse of LED ceiling lighting ever installed in a shopping mall and the 15-meter high LED displays on the shopping centre’s towers, which resemble bar codes, are not on sale in any shops. Neither are the digital media pillars and the static signage in the Mall. They are new products especially developed by iart interactive for the new building’s exterior and interior. They are intended not just to perform their primary function but also to turn shopping into a pleasant experience. Nowadays, people expect shops to be more than places where they merely make their purchases: they want to feel good, to have exciting experiences and to be given direction. In the ‘Stücki’ Shopping Centre, iart interactive’s light and media concept makes a significant contribution to achieving this. In creative cooperation with the architects, Diener & Diener, iart developed a multimedia approach that completes the architectural and communications concept by providing both scenographical elements and a narrative.

Expo 2008 Zaragoza, Spain — Swiss Pavilion

On the basis of the competition idea submitted by the architects Fischer and Walker, iart conceived and planned the exhibition ‘Under the Lake’ for the Swiss Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008. The exhibition’s central feature was a huge sail onto which water constantly fell. The sail was hung in a curved way and due to projected images seemed to change its shape and function: It formed the three-dimensional shape of a lake floor or a pool. The projected video work was realised especially for this screen by the artist Max Philipp Schmid. iart realised the entire exhibition in cooperation with tegoro solutions ag and Nüssli Schweiz AG. The Internet site for the Swiss pavilion included a virtual exhibition tour designed by iart, which was realised by Claudiabasel under iart’s direction.

All We Need — An Exhibition on Needs, Resources and Fairness

For ‘Luxemburg 2007′ (Europe’s Capital of Culture 2007), iart and Holzer Kobler Architekturen conceived and realised ‘All We Need’, an exhibition about needs, resources and fairness.
The exhibition’s central theme was the manifold interrelationships between our needs and the ecological and social resources available worldwide. Ways to achieve greater fairness at a global level were explored in the process. In addition to jointly conceiving the exhibition with Holzer Kobler Architekturen and Plinio Bachmann, iart was responsible for selecting and procuring exhibits, for writing the exhibition texts, for the catalogue and for conceiving, planning and realising the exhibition media together with their content: sound, lighting, videos, multimedia installations and audio guide.
