On the basis of the competition idea submitted by the architects Fischer and Walker, iart conceived and planned the exhibition ‘Under the Lake’ for the Swiss Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008. The exhibition’s central feature was a huge sail onto which water constantly fell. The sail was hung in a curved way and due to projected images seemed to change its shape and function: It formed the three-dimensional shape of a lake floor or a pool. The projected video work was realised especially for this screen by the artist
Beginning with the arrival of Valentin Spiess in Zaragoza, the video shows the installation works on facade, water installation, sail installation and floor covering during the last two weeks before opening of the Expo.
27 June 2008 – SF Schweizer Fernsehen: On the TV News federal president Pascal Couchepin is shown visiting the water installation of the Swiss Pavilion at Expo Zaragoza 2008.
Artist Max Philipp Schmid and film maker Thomas Isler at work in the studio, recording different sequences for the video ‘Under the Lake’. Here details of the arm is being filmed, which will move along the curved sail of the finished installation.
A test video is being projected on a 1:3 test screen over a preliminary convex mirror. In a second step the definite form of the mirror will be developed.
