Electrical Engineer

Valentin Spiess, a qualified electrical engineer, has been working in the field of new media since 1993. At first he created media installations in cooperation with artists and was the technical manager for various festivals and theatrical productions. In 2001 he set up the company iart as an engineering office for the planning and realisation of media projects. In the same year he and a small interdisciplinary team realised the media for the Museum of Communication in Berne and then created the media effects for the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart. iart’s activities encompassed hardware and software development and the conception, planning and realisation of media. Today Valentin Spiess heads a team of over 20 people specialised in the conception, planning and execution of media solutions for exhibitions, museums, architectural projects and outdoor spaces.

Peter Buchmann did East Asian studies and IT in Zurich, Tokyo and Taipei. After several years in TV news and documentary film production, he moved into software development via multimedia programming. In 2008 he completed a postgraduate course in software engineering at the University of Applied Sciences in Rapperswil. At iart, Peter Buchmann works in the area of software development/production and media production for individual projects.

Oliver Hagmann graduated in media studies, sociology and philosophy at the University of Basle. Before starting at iart, he was employed at the Digris AG as a release manager and coordinator of communication processes. The Digris AG is operator of the user generated radio ‘Open Broadcast’ and developer of its correspondent online platform. In his leisure time, Oliver Hagman is working as a co-operator of the web label ‘Interdisco.net’. In March 2011 he joined iart as ‘Scrum Master’ and is responsible for the management of working processes according to the agile working method ‘Scrum’.

Sarah Hofer has a degree in Scenography. She has been at iart since October 2008, where she works on the conception and planning of scenographic media. Before that, she worked in the area of exhibition design for groenlandbasel and as a production assistant at the Origen Theatre Festival in Savognin in the Grisons.

Lucien Iseli is a designer in visual communication (FH). After completing his apprenticeship as an electronics engineer in 2000, he worked four years for the graphics industry in technical support, followed by a year of studies at the Geneva University of Art and Design and three years at the University of Art and Design Lausanne (ECAL), with focus on new media and interaction design. Additionally, Lucien Iseli worked as a freelancer in graphic and web design. From December 2008 he worked as an art director and multimedia designer at Additive in Zurich. Since April 2011 he is art director at iart, responsible for media design.

Engineering Degree in Media and IT

Gordon Jäntsch has a degree in Engineering and Design of Digital Media. While studying, he did freelance work as a light technician and graphic designer. He cooperated with a lighting manufacturer on developing a concept for future lighting solutions in architecture. He worked as a lighting designer for architectural and theatrical projects before moving to iart in April 2010, where he is responsible for media planning for a number of projects.

Engineering Degree in Media and Communication Technology



Johannes König did an apprenticeship in Event Technology in Dresden and an engineering degree in Media and Communication Technology in Merseburg (in Saxony-Anhalt). He did his diploma thesis on ’The Standardisation of a Media Technology Planning Process‘ while working at iart. Johannes König, who has been a member of iart’s permanent staff since November 2008, is responsible for technical research and detailed media planning for various projects.
