Kapellbrücke Luzern — Multimedia Guide about the Paintings

In November 2008, fifteen years after the fire on Lucerne’s famous wooden bridge, the Kapellbrücke, painted copies of the 146 paintings originally shown on the bridge were made accessible to the public.

Dr. Jost Schumacher, a lawyer and art lover, initiated the project. In cooperation with art historian Dr. Sabina Kumschick and Lucerne’s former monument conservator Dr. Ueli Habegger he collected background information on every painting. The reproductions, crafted by artist Mike Shera and several specialists from Willy Arn’s Atelier, were painted in oil and tempera on wood. iart was responsible for the concept and content of the multimedia guide, which recounts the history of Switzerland and the lives of the patron saints, as shown on the paintings, from the angle of fictitious eye witnesses. The multimedia guide display shows pictures of buildings and sites corresponding to the spoken text.
