On 22 February 2010 Vitra Ltd is opening the new VitraHaus, which has been designed by Herzog and de Meuron, in Weil am Rhein. Products from the Vitra furniture collection are displayed there in different groupings – so-called collages – in the various exhibition areas. One or more info-terminals are available in every area. In all, there are around 25 terminals distributed throughout the house, both in the show rooms and in the shop. The concept of the terminals was jointly developed by Vitra and iart interactive. The implementation of the terminal hardware, system architecture, interaction design and the user surface design were the responsibility of iart interactive.

End of January Manuel Salchli from Presence Switzerland presented the Swiss Pavilion with our interactive façade on CCTV. Here you will find the broadcast.

Our new office space is of interest. Last weekend, it was published on the webpages of the design magazines Dezeen and Core77. To open up the corridor visually we created a new design for it together with the designers ZMIK. The rooms behind the closed walls are painted linearly onto the wall in a way that actually simulates a wider space. And at the end of the corridor even a fictive studio gets perceivable.

Three projects, to which iart contributed the media and lighting, are published in the current issue of Archithese:

The pavilions at the expo site in Shanghai are steadily getting into shape. Until the expo opens on Mai 1st 2010 at least one iart member is working in the Swiss Pavilion, supervising the installation of the media. iart is responsible for the concept, planning and design of the façade cells and the media inside the pavilion. iart will also be in charge of the technical service of the Swiss Pavilion during the expo. On 19 November at 4 pm. Valentin Spiess lectures on “the mediation of the inaccessible” at the fair ECPONATEC in Cologne. He presents innovative narratives which offer an interactive and playful approach to exhibits impossible to access without additional media. For example objects connected to complex contexts, very small exhibits, hidden parts of things or artefacts stored in the depot.

The lecture takes place on the new platform for exhibition design, scenography and interactive knowledge transfer EXPOCASE .

A warm welcome to our Doors Open Day on Friday, 13 November 2009 from 2 pm to 10 pm. We are celebrating our new location at Mülhauserstrasse 111 in Basel, presenting the new rooms, projects and visions. Afterwards there are snacks and drinks on the first floor.

We are very happy to tell that the exhibition ‘C’est la vie – Geschichten aus Leben und Tod’ was awarded the Prix Expo 2009. The jury lauded the exhibition content as well as its educational effort.
